Medrum Academy in Aberdeenshire has become the first School in Scotland to install a Reverse Vending machine as tool to increase recycling. 

The School have already demonstrated their commitment to do more to help the environment by achieving the Eco School Green Flag status in 2008 and have now installed the machine as a trial for 6 months to find out if incentives work to encourage people to recycle more.  

The pro-active Eco Committee comprising of pupils and teachers are now planning publicity to inform all staff and pupils in the school about how to use the machine and a launch event for early 2010 when the machine will be in use.


Following the successful installation at Ellon Park and Ride, Pam Walker, Aberdeenshire Council Waste Management Officer placed an order for the FR600 Reverse Vending Recycling machine providing further evidence of Scotland and the Council’s commitment to reverse vending recycling to help the environment.

The recycling machine automatically accepts, collects and statistically records Used Beverage Containers – PET bottles and cans - ready for the national recycling chain.

The FR600 Reverse Vending Recycling machine automatically issues an “incentive reward voucher” for each used plastic bottle or used beverage can received.
